How to add AR ring try-on to your Shopify store
To add AR ring try-on to your Shopify store, publish a ring-builder embed with try-on switched on and paste its Shopify recipe into the product page. Shoppers then tap Try on, and the ring tracks their finger through the phone's camera in the browser, with no app to install and nothing from the camera leaving their device.

What the shopper sees
On the product page, the 3D ring sits where your photos were, and a Try on button sits apart in the top-left corner of the stage. Tapping it opens try-on on My hand, the live camera. The ring is seated at the base of the finger, tilts with it, and turns as the hand turns. On model (a photoreal model hand with a skin-tone picker) and Photo (an uploaded or captured hand photo) are one tap away.
After a few seconds with the palm flat to the camera, a ring size chip shows an estimate with its range. A camera cannot measure an exact size, so a shopper who knows theirs can tap the chip and enter it. The AR try-on guide describes every mode and control.
Step 1: get the ring into a builder
Try-on is part of the ring-builder embed. Shoppers build the ring from your published catalogue of bands and heads, then try that exact ring on. If your rings come from CAD files, the studio renders them first; the getting started guide covers uploading, browsing starter designs and building a ring.
Step 2: publish an embed with try-on on
In Dashboard → Embeds, create a Ring Builder embed. Its settings control the default ring, the allowed metals, the AR try-on, the live SKU and price, and an add-to-cart button. Make sure try-on is switched on. Embeds start on the Starter plan.
Two settings shape how try-on looks in your store:
- Accent colour in the Branding tab also paints the try-on itself, so its mode pills, buttons and pickers match your theme rather than ours.
- Hand and box adds On model and In box views to the stage, which shoppers can browse before they try the ring on.
Step 3: paste it into Shopify
Under Install on your store, copy the ready Shopify recipe. On Shopify you can put the embed snippet in a product description or a theme block. Each embed is locked to the domains you list, so add your store's domain before you test.
When a shopper adds the ring to the cart, the embed emits an authoritative quote: the SKU and price recomputed on the server, plus the full selection.
Step 4: test it on a phone
Open the product page on a phone and tap Try on. Three things are worth checking:
- The first-time card appears, and the camera starts after one tap.
- Initializing hand tracking… shows while tracking wakes up, which can take a few seconds on a phone, then the ring appears on your finger.
- Holding your hand too far away or turned the wrong way brings up a single line of guidance, such as bring your hand closer, until the ring can be fitted.
If the camera is blocked in the browser, try-on still opens on the live camera mode and explains how to allow it, rather than quietly switching mode.
Step 5: connect the store, if you want attribution
The embed works on its own. Connecting the store is a separate step: from the Growth plan, Connect Shopify in Dashboard → Embeds links your shop by OAuth, and orders then come back through secure webhooks so the sales your builders drove show up as attributed revenue. The Shopify guide also covers matching your variants to the ring catalogue and photographing every combination.
Privacy, in one line for your product page
Camera frames stay in the shopper's browser. The first-run card says so too, and it is worth repeating near the button, because a camera prompt is the moment a shopper decides whether to trust you.

Questions
Do shoppers need to install an app to try a ring on?
No. Try-on runs in the phone's browser from the product page. The first time, a short card explains what to expect and one tap starts the camera.
What happens on a computer without a camera?
The embed shows On phone instead of Try on: a QR code that opens the same ring on the shopper's phone. On a desktop with a camera, both appear.
Do I need the Shopify app for try-on?
No. Try-on comes with the embed. The Shopify connection is a separate step, on the higher paid plans, that brings orders back as revenue attributed to your ring builders.
