Virtual ring try-on for your store

Virtual ring try-on lets shoppers see a ring on their own hand from your product page, right in the browser, with no app to install. The ring tracks the finger through the live camera, or sits on an uploaded hand photo or a photoreal model hand. Try-on also estimates the ring size in US, UK and EU sizes, and camera frames stay in the shopper's browser.

How it works

  1. Load the ring. Upload its 3D file to the studio, pick a starter design or build one in the ring builder, then open Try On to check it on a hand yourself.
  2. Publish an embed. Save the design as a project, publish a viewer or a ring builder from Dashboard → Embeds, and paste its snippet into your Shopify theme or your own site. The embeds guide walks through it.
  3. Shoppers tap Try on. Try-on opens inside the 3D frame on your product page, on the live camera, and the ring follows the shopper's finger. Photo and the model hand are one tap away.

What you get

  • Live camera. The ring tracks the shopper's finger in the browser, seated at the base of the finger and tilting with it, with the stone on top when the back of the hand faces the camera. A line above the controls says when to bring the hand closer, move it back or open it.
  • Photo mode. Shoppers upload a hand photo or take one, and the ring is placed automatically, centred on the finger and sized to it. Fit settings moves it to another finger, and in the studio Adjust fit fine-tunes the placement. Saving gives a high-resolution image at the photo's own resolution or larger, and on phones Share sends it to Messages, WhatsApp or Mail.
  • Model hand. The ring on a photoreal 3D hand, with a choice of skin tones, so a shopper can try it on without a camera. It turns slowly, and shoppers drag or zoom to inspect the stone.
  • Ring size estimate. After a few seconds with the palm flat to the camera, try-on estimates the size in US, UK and EU sizes, with a calibration step, and shows its range. A shopper who knows their size can tap the size chip and enter it, and the chip shows that size instead.
  • No app to install. Try-on runs in the browser. Camera frames stay in the shopper's browser, and the hand tracking runs on the device.
  • Live metal and stone swaps. A change shows on the ring at once, in every mode.
  • A hand-off to the phone. On a computer, an On phone QR code opens the same ring in try-on on the shopper's phone, and it takes the place of Try on where there is no camera.
  • Your choice of modes. Each embed can switch a mode off, and try-on never opens on one that is off.
  • Keyboard and screen-reader friendly. Try-on opens as a dialog, Esc closes it, and with reduced motion set the model hand stops turning on its own.

Try-on reaches your product pages through an embed. Embeds start on the Starter plan, which includes all three modes and the size estimate, and the pricing page compares the plans. The AR try-on guide covers every control.

Who uses it

  • Online jewellery stores and brands that sell rings and want shoppers to judge a ring on a hand rather than from a flat photo.
  • Shopify sellers, who paste the embed snippet into a product description or a theme block. 3D jewellery on Shopify walks through the setup.
  • Stores with a ring builder, where a shopper configures a ring and tries that configuration on without leaving the page. See the ring builder.
  • Bespoke jewellers, who put a design on the model hand in the studio and send the client a high-resolution image before the ring is made.

What it does not do yet

Try-on is for rings today. Face-tracked earring and necklace try-on, and trying several rings on at once, are on the roadmap rather than live. A camera cannot measure exact size either, so treat the estimate as a guide and confirm a firm size with a ring gauge or the ring size converter.

Questions

Do shoppers need to install an app?

No. Try-on runs in the browser on a phone or a computer. The first time a shopper uses the camera, the browser asks for permission.

Does camera video leave the shopper's device?

No. Camera frames stay in the shopper's browser and the hand tracking runs on the device, so nothing from the camera is sent anywhere.

Is the ring size estimate exact?

No. It is an estimate shown with its range, because a camera cannot measure exact size. A shopper who knows their size can enter it instead, and a ring gauge settles a firm size.

Can shoppers try on earrings or necklaces?

Not yet. Try-on is for rings today, and face-tracked earring and necklace try-on is on the roadmap.

Does try-on use credits?

No. Viewing, embedding and try-on never use credits. Credits pay for exports from the studio, such as stills and turntable video.
