Render Rhino and MatrixGold jewelry files online
To render a MatrixGold or Rhino file online, upload the .3dm to the studio and it opens in your browser as photoreal jewellery. The studio reads the file's own units and layers, leaves anything hidden out, and detects metals, stones and prongs from layer and object names. There is no separate desktop renderer to install, and the same file can be weighed, shared as a 3D link and exported as stills or video.

How it works
- Save the .3dm with its render meshes. Save normally from Rhino or MatrixGold. Save Small strips the meshes a browser draws, and a file saved that way shows little or nothing.
- Upload it to the studio. Drop the file into the studio. It opens at its true size in the file's own units, hidden objects and layers stay out, and metals, stones and prongs are detected from layer and object names.
- Check the parts, then capture. For a ring, Ring parts in the Upload tab lists the band, head, centre stone and accent stones the studio found, as Get started shows. Switch any that are wrong, pick your metals and gems, then export stills or a turntable video, or send a live 3D link.

To try it on your own file first, drop it into the free 3DM viewer, which opens it in your browser without uploading it.
What you get
- Your .3dm as it is. Rhino and MatrixGold files open directly, with their own units and layers. There is nothing to convert first and no separate desktop renderer to install.
- Materials from the file. Metals, stones and prongs are detected from layer and object names. Auto-detect colors keeps each part's detected colour, and you can change any of them, as gems, metals and two-tone finishes shows.
- Photoreal gems and metals. Diamonds get refraction, dispersion and fire, coloured stones keep their saturation, and metal presets cover yellow, white and rose gold, platinum and silver, under a studio lighting rig and HDR environments. More in jewellery rendering in the browser.
- Stills and video. Images up to 4K on the Growth plan and above, 2K on the Starter plan, and 1080p with the brand mark on the Free plan. Turntable video starts on the Starter plan. Exports need a free account and spend credits; viewing does not.
- A weight from the geometry. The free metal weight calculator weighs the metal in every common alloy, net of the stones, with the stones counted and their carats totalled.
- A 3D view to send. A share link lets a client turn and zoom the piece, and from the Starter plan a viewer embed puts it on your own site.
- 3D model export. GLB, STL or OBJ from the Growth plan, for other tools.
Who uses it
CAD designers who model in Rhino or MatrixGold and want a client to see the piece in metal and stone before it is cast. A live 3D link replaces static renders, and each version can be saved as a project.
Jewellers and retailers who receive .3dm files from a designer and need product images or a 3D view for their store, without installing CAD software. To check what a file holds first, see how to open a 3DM file without Rhino.
Workshops that need the metal weight from the model before anything is cast, and add their own casting loss allowance on top.
Weighing the same file
The metal weight calculator merges all the metal into one solid, measures its volume and multiplies it by each alloy's density, the method set out in weight, stones and cost-based pricing. A .3dm records its units, so a ring drawn in millimetres, centimetres or inches is weighed at its true size, and hidden objects and layers are left out.
Before you save, model the metal as closed solids, keep each stone as its own object and hide or delete cutters. Stones modelled as separate objects are kept out of the metal and counted on their own, and anything that cannot be measured honestly stays blank rather than estimated.
Questions
Can I render a MatrixGold file without Rhino?
Yes. MatrixGold saves Rhino's .3dm format, and the studio reads that file in your browser with Rhino's own open file library, so neither Rhino nor MatrixGold has to be installed on the computer you render on.
Should I export to STL or GLB first?
No. Upload the .3dm itself. It carries its units and named layers, which the studio reads to show the piece at its true size and to detect its materials. An STL carries no units, parts or materials.
Is there a plugin for Rhino or MatrixGold?
Not yet. A plugin that publishes from your CAD tool straight to a shareable 3D link is on the roadmap. Today you save the .3dm and upload it, and it opens directly.
What if a part is detected as the wrong material?
Switch it. For a ring, Ring parts in the Upload tab lists the band, head, centre stone and accent stones the studio found, and you can change any part that is wrong. The fix is saved with the design.
Does the weight include casting loss?
No. The metal weight calculator gives the weight of the model as drawn, at the size it was modelled, with no allowance for sprues, casting loss or polishing. A caster adds their own allowance on top.
