A KeyShot alternative for jewelry rendering
3JD is a KeyShot alternative for jewelry when you want photoreal renders from a CAD file without installing a desktop renderer. It runs in the browser, opens Rhino and MatrixGold .3dm files directly, detects metals and stones, and uses the same file for an interactive viewer, AR try-on and embeds on your store. Last checked: 8 October 2026, against KeyShot's own pages, listed under Sources.

Who each tool is for
3JD is for jewellers, designers and brands who want photoreal stills, turntable video and an interactive 3D view from a CAD file, without installing software, and who want that same file to power AR try-on and an embed on their own store. The engine is set up for jewellery: gem refraction, metal presets and a studio lighting rig. See jewelry rendering software that runs in your browser.
KeyShot is a desktop rendering application for Windows and macOS, with Linux used only for network renderingsrc. It is priced per user per year, cloud rendering is paid as you go from prepaid KeyShot Credits, and its web viewer, XR and configurator come as the KeyShotWeb add-onsrc. When to choose KeyShot
KeyShot is a dedicated desktop renderer, and that depth is its strength: if rendering is the whole job and you want it on your own workstation, with network rendering and pay-as-you-go cloud rendering alongside, it is built for that. Its CAD import is also broad: beyond Rhino .3dm, it lists STEP, IGES and many other CAD formatssrc, which matters if your files come from more than one modelling tool.
3JD is built around jewellery in the browser, and some jobs are not live in it yet:
- Batch-rendering many catalogue images across metals, stones and camera angles from one model. The virtual photographer is on the roadmap, not live.
- Gemstone inclusions or physically simulated chains, also on the roadmap.
- Scenes that are not jewellery. The studio's materials, lighting and try-on are set up for rings, pendants and other pieces of jewellery.
If your files come from Rhino or MatrixGold, the Rhino and MatrixGold rendering page shows what happens to them on upload.
Questions
Do I need KeyShot to render a ring with 3JD?
No. The studio renders in the browser from the CAD file itself, so there is no separate desktop renderer to install. Upload a .3dm, .stl, .glb or another supported file and the studio applies metals and gems for you.
Can 3JD open my MatrixGold file?
Yes. MatrixGold saves Rhino .3dm files, and the studio opens them directly, reading the file's own units and its layers.
How is rendering paid for?
Exports spend credits from your plan's monthly allowance, so you pay for what you render. Viewing and embedding never use credits, and the pricing page lists the cost of each export.
How current is this comparison?
Last checked: 8 October 2026. The 3JD column comes from the product itself. Every KeyShot fact comes from KeyShot's own website, is marked with a link to its page, and is listed under Sources; where their site does not list something, the table says so.
