How does virtual ring try-on work?
Virtual ring try-on finds your hand in the camera view and draws a 3D ring on your finger, seated at its base, sized to it and turned with it. A hand-tracking model keeps locating the knuckles and finger joints, and the ring is redrawn as your hand moves. It runs in the browser with nothing to install, by live camera, hand photo or a photoreal model hand, and it estimates your ring size.

What happens on the live camera?
On My hand, the live camera, four steps repeat as the video runs:
- Find the hand. A hand-tracking model marks the wrist, knuckles and finger joints in the video, filtered to take out jitter.
- Seat the ring. The ring sits at the base of the finger, between the knuckle and the next joint, scaled to the finger's width, read from the knuckle spacing and palm length.
- Turn it. A turned hand makes the knuckle row look shorter next to the palm, and a finger pointing at the camera looks shorter too. Reading both, try-on puts the stone on top when the back of your hand faces the camera, and opens the band once the finger points far enough toward it.
- Place it in depth. An invisible stand-in for your finger is drawn with the ring, so the band can sit behind the finger where it passes round it.
If the ring cannot be fitted accurately, it is not drawn. A line above the controls asks you to bring your hand closer, move it back or into the middle, turn it to face the camera or open it.
How does photo mode work?
Photo mode runs the same tracking once, on a photo you upload or take with the hand guide. It works from any angle and with either hand: full-size phone photos, sideways or upside-down shots, dim photos and small images all work. The ring is then placed automatically, centred on the finger and laid across it.
How does the model hand work?
Nothing is tracked. Each finger of the photoreal 3D hand is measured from its own shape, so the ring is seated and sized on the finger you pick in Fit settings, with no camera needed.
How does try-on estimate your ring size?
Fitting the band on screen and telling you your size are separate problems. The first can be read from the picture; the second needs a real-world scale, which one camera does not have.
So the size is an estimate from your hand's proportions, read only while the whole hand is in view and flat to the camera. After a few seconds the size chip shows the middle of those readings with its range, in US, UK and EU sizes.
To calibrate it, tap the chip and enter your size. The chip then shows your size, and try-on calibrates its estimate against it. For a firm size, measure your ring size at home or use the ring size converter.
Does camera video leave your device?
No. The hand tracking runs on your device, and camera frames never leave your browser.
Where can you try it?
Try it free with the ring try-on, or open Try On in the studio. On your own product pages it runs inside an embed, from the Starter plan; see virtual ring try-on for your store and the AR try-on guide.
Questions
Can I try on earrings or several rings at once?
Not yet. Try-on is for rings today. Earring and necklace try-on, and stacking several rings, are on the roadmap.
