Pavé setting in jewelry

A pavé setting covers a surface with small stones set close together, so the metal looks paved with them. Each stone sits in its own drilled seat, held by tiny beads or prongs of metal usually shared with the stones beside it. It is common along the band of an engagement ring and around a halo.

How it is set

The setter cuts a seat for each stone, then raises small beads from the metal around it and pushes them over its edge. On a piece cast from CAD, the beads are often modelled as prongs and cast in place. Micro pavé is the same method with smaller stones, set under magnification.

Pavé, channel and halo

A channel setting holds a row of stones between two walls of metal, with no metal between the stones. Pavé holds each stone with beads, so it can cover wide and curved surfaces too. A halo is a design rather than a method: a ring of small stones around a centre stone, often pavé set, as in the jewellery rendering below.

Pavé in a 3D model

A model weighed before its stone seats are cut comes out heavy. Keep every stone as its own object and hide or delete the cutters. The metal weight calculator keeps separate stones out of the metal weight and totals their carats.

The app counts pavé stones as side stones (every stone except the centre stone), and cost-based pricing can price them by size, with a price per carat and a setting charge per stone. In the ring builder, a published Setting metal step lets the head and the pavé take a different metal from the band (gems and metals).
