Set up a ring builder, from your store to going live

Create a Ring Builder in Dashboard → Embeds and it opens on Set up your ring builder: how your store is built, the default ring, your prices, diamonds, the look, adding it to your store, a test order in test mode and going live. Each step shows what is left, and the launch checklist in the editor keeps track until the builder is ready.

Before you start

Publishing a ring builder on your own site starts on the Retailer plan. It works with a Shopify or WooCommerce store, a Wix or Squarespace site, your own website, or no online store at all, where shoppers send you an enquiry instead of adding to a cart.

Create the builder

In Dashboard → Embeds, choose Ring Builder under Create an embed and create it. The editor opens on Set up your ring builder, eight short steps. Skip any of them: the step list shows which are done, and Set up step by step in the launch checklist opens the setup again on the first step that has something left to do.

Each choice is saved as you make it. A step whose setting is in the editor opens that setting, and Continue setup under the top bar brings you back.

1. Your store

Tell the builder how your store is built. It is the same question as Finish setting up on the Overview, and the same answer.

  • Shopify: the builder puts the ring in your Shopify cart, matched to your variants by SKU. Connect your store in Dashboard → Shopify; the step links there until it is connected.
  • WooCommerce, Wix or Squarespace and My own website: the builder hands the ring to your own cart, through the WooCommerce plugin or your code.
  • No online store yet: shoppers send you the ring they built with their question, in Leads and by email.

When the shopper is ready switches between Add to cart and Send an enquiry for any store. The other ways a ring can reach your cart, a new variant, a draft order or hosted checkout, are under Pricing & checkout (checkout and pricing).

2. The default ring

The band and stone the builder opens on, before a shopper changes anything. Choose the default ring opens the editor's Default ring setting, beside the steps shoppers see.

3. Your prices

Until the builder's price book sets them, shoppers see 3JD's catalogue prices. A price book prices one way:

  • List: your own price for each part, and for whole rings if you like.
  • Formula: metal by its weight at your rates, plus stones and making (weight and cost).
  • Shopify: the prices of your Shopify variants.

Open the pricing console opens it in a new tab, and the step follows when you come back.

4. Diamonds

Shoppers choose the centre stone from live diamonds from the partner feed, quality tiers of your own, or 3JD's quality tiers until you set either. Both are in the pricing console (your own diamond feed).

5. The look

Open Appearance sets the builder's colours, fonts and corners, so it sits well on your store (colours and type).

6. Add it to your store

Paste the script on a page of your store, or on Shopify add the 3JD app's Ring builder block to a page in your theme editor. Then open that page once: the step turns green when the builder reports from it. All install options has the iframe, the cart links and a recipe for each platform.

7. Place a test order

Turn on Test mode, then order a ring on your store the way a shopper would. In test mode the builder writes nothing to your Shopify products and takes no payment itself: a ring your variants don't sell comes through as a draft order you can delete. Your store's own checkout runs as usual, so pay with its test mode. The builder shows a small Test mode label while it is on (test mode).

8. Go live

Go live turns test mode off and switches a paused builder on. The step lists anything still open; none of it stops you going live.

The launch checklist

The bar at the top of the editor rail shows how much of the builder is ready. Click it for the full list: each open line says what is missing and opens the setting that fixes it, and it checks again when you come back to the tab. The launch checklist has every line.
