DAE viewer: open a Collada file online

Drop a Collada .dae file and it opens in your browser, rendered with jewellery materials and studio lighting. Each mesh in the file becomes a part in the list, marked as metal or stone where the viewer can tell. SketchUp and many older tools export Collada. Nothing is installed and the file is not uploaded.

What Collada holds

A .dae is a text file describing a whole scene: meshes, materials and how they are arranged. The viewer reads the meshes and draws them with the studio's jewellery materials.

Moving on from DAE

If the piece is going onto a website, export it as GLB. It carries the same geometry in a single compact file that browsers and embedded viewers load directly.

Questions

What is a DAE file?

A Collada file: an XML format from the Khronos Group for exchanging 3D scenes between programs. SketchUp exports it, and many older tools read and write it.

Should I keep using Collada?

For the web, GLB has largely replaced it. GLB comes from the same standards group, is smaller and loads in one request.
